Soon after the desktop background first appears, a grey stripe appx 2 to 4
pixels tall x full screen width appears at the top of screen. As the desktop
stabilizes, it is replaced by a shaded grey notification taskbar of normal
height with the expected notifications on the right, an Ubuntu logo on the
left, but no tabs or tabbed text, or text options. Below the Ubuntu logo is
what must be a launcher window running the remainder of screen height and wide
enough to house large icons, offering a selection of 10 icons. This launcher
bar seems to have an auto hide function, but no controls offered either by
menu, left or right click on the bar, nor left or right click on the Ubuntu
logo in the to taskbar.
As application windows are in the foreground, a portion of their menu bar
options appear in the notification taskbar, although inconsistently. Sometimes
these menu bar options are only visible in the notification taskbar upon
rollover, sometimes less options appear in the notification taskbar than are in
the application's menu bar, and sometimes the application's menubar is
completely gone, with some or all of the menu options appearing in the
notification taskbar.
Additionally, upon attempting to hide the launcher bar on one occasion, all
future windows were docked and unmoveable at the upper left hand corner of the
desktop, minus their menu bars.
