You have been subscribed to a public bug:
When you've set a different, non-default, mouse style from appearances,
Unity doesn't display it correctly. Occasionally, the secondary version
(pointing finger, expander) will correctly honor the theme, but the main
pointer will always appear as the while mouse pointer.
However, if you take a screen shot of the desktop, it _will_ display the
correct pointer.
