Thanks for the tip, but that didn't work too well for me. I have an old 
notebook Umax with VIA chipset and UniChrome PRO grafics so I can forget about 
all the cool stuff with compiz. I always turn the effects off (in previous 
versions in Appearance pref) and it runs smoothly without any major glitches. 
So if it can't be fixed I will go back to Mint 10.
But back to the problem. When I press Fusion icon the screen goes black and I 
am forced to login again - I don't know if it is a bug or just my feature 
;-)... I switched to Metacity through Ubuntu tweak app, but it is even worse 
because to open mintmenu I have to press the button about three times, it slows 
my workflow considerably and for example playing video is like slow motion 
and/or my NB freezes completely. IMO inconsistent gnome panel is lesser evil.
