Meantime there were multiple automatic software updates to X related
packages.

These are the results:

 * The good message: Bug described here is solved (desktop switcher does work
as expected, no more crashes / freezes since about 1-2 weeks)
 * The bad message: Some other things are broken now:
  * Main issue: The laptop integrated touchpad does no longer work (discovered
today while trying to work far from docking station, but probably this issue
stays on since about 2 weeks (last time I did use touchpad successfully))
   * But the track-pin (integrated in laptop keyboard) continued to work (so I
could do some work still).
  * Gnome applet (located inside control bar) "Bildschirmhelligkeits-Applet
2.30.0 - Regeln Sie die Bildschirmhelligkeit Ihres Laptops; Copyright (C) 2006
Benjamin Canou; Note by me: The given URL
http://www.gnome.org/projects/gnome-power-manager/ is misleading to the power
manager" (taken from German "Info" output; not knowing how to determine the
package it belongs to) is degraded to a gray square box now (using laptop
along, e.g. without docking station)
 * Initialization of X system takes more time as earlier - but this is ok for
me (pure info message).
