@Adam: I don't see such behaviour with Skype - it basically never appears at my desktop. However Kadu bahaves exactly like you described - some random full-icon-sized image appears and then icon is shown. Where icon do not appear then this noise is nevert present. Hint with using unintialized memory sounds reasonable to me.
