I cannot test the situation fully at the moment. Still, while using Ubuntu Classic ( with effects ), I have not noticed the buggy behaviour anymore though Compiz still is unstable as hell. Especially Unity plugin.
No info about Ubuntu Classic ( no effects ) as I suppose the bug was all about Compiz, not GDM or Metacity ...
