I can conform this issue too! I believe it has to do with either AMD CPUs or AMD/ATI graphic cards. I have an AMD Phenom ii x4 and a AMD Radeon HD 6550M. Usually fills one core, but sometime works on the second. Ubuntu 11.04 32-bit.
