I get the same error. Sometimes 3 times per hours. To me it seams to be affected by keypresses, as it often happens while I work with VIM or while I am closing it with ":x" While compiz freezes I can move the mouse cursor and change to the console and restart compiz with "sudo killall -9 compiz"
