I can reproduce the same issue on Ubuntu 11.10 in VirtualBox using the provided virtualbox-guest-system driver (virtualbox-guest-dkms, virtualbox-guest-x11, virtualbox-guest-utils version: 4.1.0-dfsg- 2ubuntu1) .
Unity2D works fine.
