The use case is skimming all new items, opening them and then reading them later. Note: this happens only if Focus Prevention Level in Focus & Raise Behaviour in General Options in ccsm is set to low or off(which is the default though) - if it is set to normal or higher, this does not occur, so maybe it is a compiz thing?
