I am getting this behavior without having to hit tab. I always re-bind my workspace movement keys to super+left, super+right. With the latest up-to-date 12.04, switching workspaces with these keybinds leaves the 'Viewport Switcher Preview' window up when I release the keybinds. I must then hit escape for it to go away.
