I had high CPU usage and I run XFCE... so I don't think it's Unity. I'm running the older beta that I mentioned (304.22 seems newer), but my CPU usage is definitely low. Here's a screenshot of XBMC playing a 1080p video using basically no CPU (the chip is a Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz).
