This bug also affects me. It doesn't need to be started from the dock; starting it from Applications menu, terminal or Gnome-Do also makes the system freeze. It's not possible to interact with the dock or the desktop, only move the mouse or kill X server with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace.
This bug does not occur with Gnome Shell or Unity.
