Hi, please try:

1. When the problem occurs, don't just look at the CPU usage but also the 
memory usage (which is critical if you have 512MB RAM). What does "ps auxw" 
report before and then after the suspend/resume? Please attach logs...
    ps auxw > before.txt
    # Suspend, resume
    ps auxw > after.txt

2. Gnome Classic mode. Requires first:
    sudo apt-get install gnome-session-fallback
Does the same problem happen when you log in to Gnome Classic?
