André, Thank you for your warning. I had also tried your fix, but Unity got completely screwed up - same as described by the two other people that reported this issue. I tried to play a little bit at recovering the situation - but to no avail. Even trying to reinstall the packages involved through the single/recovery boot did not work. Fortunately, I had made a clone backup image of my SSD just before attempting the fix...
