I have also had this bug since ages. An alternative fix to remove the black borders:
1. Open the NVIDIA X Server settings. 2. go to X Server Display Configuration. 3. Click the "Advanced..." button. 4. Change panning from 1920x1080 to for example 1920x1081 (anything will do). 5. Tab out of box, press "Apply". 6.
