I can't help you with the Mac, sadly, since I do not have a Mac environment to test it. :( As soon as I get a Mac for testing, I will dig into this. So long you could only try to gerenate an Xdebug trace for me of a write access and I can try to see if I spot the issue there. For the Word documents I actually have no clue. I tried up- and downloading on XP with plain text and binary files (ZIP) and both worked fine.
