Open question 1: I think dame has to be filled. Open question 2: A public domain library should determine what is alive and what is not.
This is a very bad choice. Here is a better list of necessary decisions: - logical (like Japanese 2003 Rules) versus informal (like Verbal German-Japanese Rules) - approximating official professional rulesets (like Japanese 1989 Rules) versus approximating common sense (like Verbal German-Japanese Rules) - executed solely by the programs versus executed by supervising assistance (like the programmers, software, or referees, etc.) - how to overcome the infinite computational complexity of Japanese style rules in practice: solving whole-board tsumego problems versus pretending Japanese rules while actually using some other Territory Scoring ruleset that allows solution by means of a small number (like 0, 1, or 2) of extra move-sequences Only after answering such general aspects would it make sense to reflect more specific things like whether to use filling of dame in between independently alive groups, mandatory perfect play during part of the game, etc. -- robert jasiek _______________________________________________ computer-go mailing list [email protected] http://www.computer-go.org/mailman/listinfo/computer-go/
