Ok, I am playing hundreds or even thousands of games, not hundreds of thousands.
But this is what I am trying to do. In chess there are lots of people running
private
tournaments on their personal computer like I do, in Go I am the only one?
- what I did:
On 9x9 soon some first 4200 games will be played between 8 programs
and I will publish the results in a few weeks.
Starting a new tournament with the strongest Go software available for 19x19
I did let play 300 games (100 games / pairing) with
GM = GoeMate 2001 by Prof. Chen, Zhixing - China
GP = Go++ v5.0 by Dr. Michael Reiss - England
MF = Many Faces of Go v11.0 by David Fotland - USA
Results:
GM GP MF wins
GM - 54 92 146
GP 46 - 83 129

So far GoeMate ist the strongest Go program on 19x19
- what I plan to do next:
include other programs like
FunGo, WinHonte, GnuGo, Go Intellect
GoAhead, Dariush, SmartGo, Aya, ...
include handicap games
include some of the newest strong Go playing programs like
MoGo, CrazyStone, Valkyria, Suzie
include newer versions of the above programs
if I can get copies of these
publish the results and the games on a free info site
and have monthly updates of this ongoing tournament
Would be great, if this could help a little
making some of the Go programs stronger!
I see it was easier some years ago,
there were new programs only few in a year and
new versions of each only every couple of years -
but I am not sad about this having changed so much :-)
I thought CGOS would be ideal for these purposes now
and for testing every new program and all the new versions
but why are there so few playing?
On 19x19 I saw GnuGo and Aya - but no program else
with more than 1000 games...
My earlier 13x13 tournament was a great success
and I hope my new 9x9 and 19x19 contests will also be
successful in order to have some of the best programs
interested in participating and my work becoming a
source of motivation for all programmers of Go playing software.
But even if I succeed with all my plans
all that I can do is just meant as another contribution to computer go
and never will replace or let alone be comparable to
the online play on CGOS or to Nick Wedd´s online tournaments
or to any other tournament.
