I put in the watchdog script - hopefully it will work. I will get an email whenever a restart happens. If the server hangs - the script should restart it within 15 minutes.
Actually, the script has certain bugs that I'm not going to fix that could delay the restart - but it is good enough as a stopgap and it will be a rare occurrence that this happens and will cause no other problem other than a delayed restart.
