Dear Alexis,

Actually, there are quite a number of groups that would be interested.
I know of Ingo Althofer, Jena University,
Ulf Lorenz, Siegen,
Mark Winands, Maastricht,
and our own group in Leiden (lead by Jaap van den Herik, we moved from Tilburg
to Leiden about a year ago).
If you are self-funded, that would certainly help, but we also regularly have
open PhD positions, of which some are definitely related to Go.
With one of my current PhD students we are working very hard on parallelizing
MCTS.
We have a sizable games group with PhD’s, postdocs, and MSc students.

Actually, in July we are organizing the Computer Olympiad, and the Advances in
Computer Games Conference. You might want to check these out.
