The article at :
http://www.linuxfordevices.com/c/a/News/IBMs-Watson-wins-Jeopardy-practice-round/?kc=rss
mentions:
"Under the "hood," Watson is all open-source, using Eclipse as the tools
platform along with Apache's Hadoop and Unstructured Information
Management Architecture (an "IBM Research creation") to analyze
unstructured data, said Spang."
googleing for "Unstructured Information Management Architecture" you can
find:
http://domino.research.ibm.com/comm/research_projects.nsf/pages/uima.index.html
http://uima.apache.org/
There is an introduction starting at:
http://uima.apache.org/doc-uima-why.html
This could be the kernel of Watson and the rest are extras added for the
show. Analyzing this information can take months but it looks very
promising. (Unfortunately most is in Java.)
Jacques.
