A lot of CD's will work if you just "copy" the information to a usb
drive, but some will not. There are hidden files / sectors on the cd/
dvds that make it boot and run correctly. Coal has an excellent idea
about the ISO files. Just go to someone else's computer and create an
ISO file, take the iso file and copy it to the USB drive, install
PowerISO (or any other ISO program) and you will be able to mount the
ISO to a virtual CD rom, this works wonders with programs that require
you to keep the CD in the drive to work (IE...Starcraft)

Another alternative would be just to buy a CD rom and put it in.
Newegg has a LG Dvd Burner on sale for 21 bucks with free shipping,
can't beat that. :-)
