try right clicking the desktop, and choose Arrange Icons>>> show
desktop icons....
if failed, does your laptop has a sticker on it, with the windows
serial key and validating or installation key??? if this is the  case,
then download the appropriate windows version stated in the sticker
(from anywhere off the net), install it using the key printed on your
laptop....this will solve all your other problems, and start a fresh
installation......make sure before you do this, to back up all your
important files and documents.
