I want to load a linux distro on my old Latitude Notebook. The original modular bay DVD was dead so I snagged another on ebay. New DVD works fine in Windows but will not boot from it. My old DVD used to boot fine. Boot config is set to boot from DVD/CD before HDD. When I boot, after BIOS load, I get a message which says "Secondary Hard Disk Drive 0 not found". Inspection of the BIOS config shows it identifies the hardware in the modular bay as 0 MB HDD. There is no ability to set this in the BIOS, it just displays what it has identified in the I am using the latest BIOS release. USB boot is not an option on this machine and other methods of Linux installation, while they would work, don't answer my needs. I need the ability to boot from DVD to also be able to restore my hard drive using a backup/ restore program. I tried to roll the BIOS back to a previous version (prior to an update which says they fixed CD booting issues) but the BIOS update refuses to rollback to an earlier version. Any ideas?
