3 questions: num lock, ctrl+alt+delete, wireless network

background info computer - bought computer brand new in late 90s
(maybe 1998). gateway with pentium 3 450, 256mb ram, 16mb graphics,
20gig ata hd, win 98. upgraded to win 98 se maybe 2 years later.
upgraded to win xp pro about 6 months ago (currently running sp3).
already run multiple virus (avg & norton) and spyware (spybot & ad-
aware) scans to try to resolve issues, and regularly use tune up
utilities 2008.

background info me - i'm not a total idiot ;) i used to be a darn good
programmer, but times have changed a lot since then. already tried
most common sense solutions, as well as some others.

1: prob with num lock key - it will be active past bios and then by
the time the xp logon screen appears it's inactive. it activates again
by pushing the button so it's no big deal, but i'm just curious if you
have any clue why it would do this. proper drivers are installed. i
believe the timing coincides with ctrl+alt+delete issue (not 100% sure
tho). i don't think it's relevant but i have doskey run in autoexec
batch file. xp is dos based right? i think they use unix now for
vista, but i'm not sure.

2: ctrl+alt+delete - doesn't work anymore. it worked fine for quite a
while after i upgraded to xp, but now i get the 'stuck key' tone from
the case just from pressing ctrl+alt. i have no clue why it stopped
working, but have already ruled out all running processes as possible
culprits. is there a registry entry that might disable it in xp? once
again keyboard is fine. it might have been around the same time i
upgraded to sp3, but i dont think so. also, i had ms visual studio 6
enterprise installed, but i recently unistalled all but c++ & basic
(over a gig worth of crap). could the uninstall have messed up the
reg? i kept all common files.

3: wireless network - i have an old d-link 802.11b pci card. my
wireless worked fine with xp and 98 until i recently moved. for a
while i had bellsouth fastaccess with a dsl modem+router combo (dont
remember manufacturer or model #). xp wireless utility connected fine.
then i switched to comcast cable with cable modem+router combo
(motorola, dont remember model #). xp wireless utility connected fine.
at my new house i have a motorola sb5101 cable modem and a d-link
dir-615 wired/wireless router. it's 802.11x type. i've double-checked
all router settings, and they're all correct. all my other comps
(running vista) connect fine with windows wireless utility, however,
the comp in question won't. it gets stuck on authenticating and stays
there. sometimes internet works, sometimes it doesn't. i got a free
trial of pure networks network magic with my router, and when i use
it, it connects with no problems. what's the difference?
