I would recommend HP or Toshiba standard laptops, but these are
usually preloaded with Windows Vista now. You can also get Netbooks,
Asus Eee PC's (which is a netbook, but a "Personal Computer" none the
less) are very nice, I think they make other models as well, and I
have a lot of faith in Asus quality.

As for single core, dual-core, quad-core, RAM, HDD space, etc Almost
all new laptops coming out now ARE some form of dual-core, I wouldn't
bother getting a single-core since it's already outdated, but you
shouldn't need more then 2 or 3GBs ram at most, most new laptop HDDs
are all 150GBs or more, which is probably plenty for you.

Depending on where in the world you are located Jason, there may be
several places you can get good deals on laptops.
