And, of course, the wireless security you could use will depend upon
the capability of the router. For example, the Linksys WRT54G is
capable of being set up to use a RADIUS server for authorizing access
which means that you could have your own RADIUS server set up behind
the network to control access to the network and with proper setup and
practices it would take a lot of work for a hacker to use/penetrate
your network.
As far as WEP, WPA WPA2 etc - those are only encryptions they do not
control access.
The MAC filtering means that only specified machines would be allowed
access - for example only your laptop and nobody else
