I just had the same problem with my laptop and a friend of mine's desktop and not being as techy as you I took them off to my techy's repair shop and he said all that was wrong was that I did not have a program installed to run it. I had assumed xp did that automatically but apparently not always. He installed a program and all is well now. Not sure if this is helpful but just in case I thought I would ad my 2 cents worth.
