Domain: Active Directory Server: Microsoft Windows Server 2003 DHCP Clients: Windows Vista and Windows 7 Hardware: Dell laptops
I have both wired and wireless acceess to my office LAN. I have 1x DHCP server distributing IP's based on MAC address to the wired (via ethernet) clients and a seperate DHCP providing IP's to wireless clients. Under XP, I could researve the same IP address for the client on both DHCP's (via MAC address) and the client just had to remove the network cable before connecting to the wireless LAN in order to pick up the same address on the wireless LAN. Under Vista and Windows 7, the only way to continue this procedure is to disable the ethernet port on the laptop before moving to the wireless network, and then repeat the procedure when moving back to the ethernet LAN. According to the logs, the DHCP server is assigning/renewing the IP address but the client is refusing to accept the IP. I think that when the client removes the network cable, Vista/Win7 believes the IP is still active, so will not allow the same IP to be assigned to the wireless NIC. If I assign a seperate internal IP on the wireless DHCP it works fine, so the problem is with the single IP being assigned to 2 NIC's. Could anyone offer any advise? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Computer Tech Support" group. To post to this group, send email to [email protected].
