if you insert an mp3 cd into the drive, then the sound drivers are intact...but if you insert an audio cd and it plays back, then both the cd drive and the sound card(HARDWARES) are fine and working, but you have a problem with the software...
In the device manager, uninstall all sound drivers, and then let the computer install them, or alternatevily if you can, install a repair for the software if you have it somewhere.
