First off... NO the 5 in the Port: 587 does not refer to a server
error. It means just that... it had an error sending to HOST:
smtp.gmail.com ON PORT: 587 (five hundred eighty seven) which
happens to be gmail's smtp port for sending mail.

Next, you have not indicated when this happens what are you
doing? Are you accessing your gmail account via a browser?
What is running at the time this occurs? And etc.

This info is needed to answer you because there are a number
of applications, and browser add-ons which send status/error
type reports through the email address you have configured it
for. PLUS, there are also trojans and viruses which send out
through your email account.
You have just not provided us with enough information to
be able to help you.
