My Advent 4211 Notebook (netbook) runs Windows XP home SP3. In the last few days it's become completely unstable; the system crashes for no apparent reason, it won't starts etc. It fails when I'm in the middle of working on it etc.,etc.
I ran every diagnostic that I use; CCleaner almost daily including checking the registry for errors and backing up any issues. I use AVG 9.0 which is updated daily, and I've also run SpyBot S&D to see if there are any unexpected files hiding away. I finally decided the bast thing to do was to reinstall windows XP. Using the supplied utility I created an SD Boot card, made sure that all of my valuable data and programs were backed up, and then I rebooted. The system comes with a utility called The Techguys that allows you to reinstall the system, but as soon as I pressed the button I hit a problem. The system told me that I had an error (I didn't make a note of it, sorry), and to try to start again from the SD card. When I boot up again I have to press F11 to change the boot sequence, then it starts to install windows, but after a few minutes I get a blue screen that says; A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated. Technical information: *** STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0x80FEE020, 0x80FEE16C, 0x8B244330) I haven't added any new hardware or software, but now as best I can tell, I need to reformat the hard drive. This system has no CD/DVD player, so I need to be able to download some kind of utility to an SD card so that I can move forward - can anyone help? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Computer Tech Support" group.
