at first I wondered since the word is so similar to canada and being canadian curiousity got me to 'google it' and i found out about it here http://www.scribd.com/doc/4716128/Learn-Kannada- where it says this 'Kannada' is one of the oldest Dravidian languages and is spoken in its various dialects by roughly 45 million people. Kannada is one of the official languages of India and is the state official language of the state of Karnataka.
