It is not an application that starts the scan, it is the windows siak check utility, it is the one after a loss of electricity or after some files are corrupt...after the windows splash screen loads, the scan is recommended and bla bla bla... Now I guess if you booted into Windows CD, you may do a repair installation, which luckily will solve the problem, otherwise you may try to do a fresh installation, but in this case, all your data on the harddrive will be gone for good. while in the CD boot, try >>>> chkdsk c: /r/f <<<<
