@OP: If it has reached the Desktop, there is a good chance that the reboot could be due to a malware or a virus. Since you are able to boot into safe mode, you might want to run a full scan with your antivirus and antimalware software.
You could also run 'msconfig' from Start->Run and uncheck all the programs that start automatically. Finally, you can run 'sfc /scannow' in a command prompt. This will ensure that all the system files are good. All the above in safe mode since you can't boot into normal mode.
