I would not recommend a Windows PC at all to an Engineer, I use a Macbook Pro 13"
I got the 13" because it is lighter and easier to fit into my backpak. I have two partitions running on it, one with Snow Leopard, and one with Windows XP Pro. Everything I through at it, it can handle. Price wasnt cheap though, a normal macbook pro is around 1200-1500 dollars, plus I added a SSD Hard drive from Intel for around 300, but it BLAZES in speed.
