I think it's not that probable, since all cpu's have thermal sensors and they auto shutdown the computer when they overheat, so i think you should test other things that could lead to this same problem, maybe RAMS not attached good enough, if the computer is dusty u could try to blow that away ( its weird but i faced that once, my computer didn't start up just because it had too much dust in it) , swap rams, and these kinds of checks.
