well, i'll assume that you remove the extension by mistake, so i want to ask
you something to make sure if that's the case or not, did you try to do
right click -> open with -> media player for example to one of the files
that were corrupted ? does it play when you do that or not ?
do you rename them from windows explorer normally like any other file?
