Hi all, I have recently obtained a Tripp Lite SMARTINT2200VS UPS in order to provide electrical power for an Intel Xeon HP Proliant ML370 G6 Server in the case of power outage. When I simulate a power outage by disconnecting the main power cable from an AC outlet, the server shuts down immediately, although the UPS is fully charged. Further, I hear a "cracking voice" near to the power supply fan of the server. The strange thing is, that the UPS can provide electrical power up to 2000 Watt, whereas the server needs only 750 Watt to function. Where is then the problem? In the UPS manual it is clearly stated that one does not need to install the UPS on the operating system of the server in order for it to work properly, i.e., it can work without a software. It can sense a power failure immediately and it should be able to provide enough power for the server. I was wondering if anyone out there may have faced the same problem. Any hints or suggestions are appreciated. For further information, I am running Linux Ubuntu version 10 OS on the server for which there is no Tripp Lite software to run a UPS power management software.
