could be several reasons, try starting firefox in safe mode , there's an option in the start menu in firefox called 'mozilla forefox (safe mode)' that will start firefox with all addons disabled, if it runs fine it might be an addon's fault, you should then disable the latest couple of addons then till u find which one is causing it, sometimes also certain pages cause that for some reason, if u are restoring a session, try canceling it and starting a new session, there's also firefox 8 out now, u could also try downloading the new version and see how its gonna go.
