My cable modem lasted about 7 years before it got passed by the march
of technology. Thing would sort of work at the end but the standards
had passed it by. Not bad for $40 at MicroCenter.

I have no problem renting a modem for a couple of months. Heck, I
don't even mind getting a SurfBoard modem (what Comcast left me, so
they ought to support it) from somewhere. They're only $40 or so on
Ebay. That's only 13 months rent.

What I guess I can use in the mean time is a router so I can put my
network back together.
