I looked it up at www.radiostatiomworld.com and it is sometimes true and
sometimes not. WETA is especially a surprise.

 WRC(04) 100KW WRC-DT(48) 813KW DT higher
WTTG(05) 100KW WTTG-DT(36) 1000KW DT higher
WJLA(07) 316KW WJLA-DT(39) 646KW DT higher
WUSA(09) 316KW WUSA-DT(34) 646KW DT higher
WDCA(20) 3980KW WDCA-DT(35) 760KW
WETA(26) 2290KW WETA-DT(27) 75KW
WHUT(32) 5000KW WHUT-DT(33) 1000KW
WDCW(50) 4168KW WDCW-DT(51) 125KW

I see
VHF SD stations use the least watts
UHF SD stations use the most watts -- 10x the VHF stations
UHF HD stations are in the middle, but strange.

Can anyone shed some light on this?
