My WordPerfect program has quit working properly and after reinstalling and checking several times with the WordPerfect newsgroups for advice, I have received this advice:

It seems clear that your registry hives for Corel are damaged.

You could rename HKCU\Software\Corel to Corel1; and HKLM\Software\Corel to Corel1. The Corel1 hives are now backup versions, which can be renamed back again, should this prove necessary. Then copy the Corel hives for the functional user to HKCU and HKLM. This should give you working versions.

The "functional user" referred to in the above is a newly-created user account (Windows XP Home) from which the (same) WordPerfect installation works properly. I am hesitant to begin editing the registry until I am certain what I am doing.

The first part, changing the name, seems simple using regedit.

The second part, about copying the registry from one user account to another, is not so clear to me. Does each user account have a separate registry (implied by the advice)? How can I copy and paste into regedit (there is no entry in regedit's "Edit" menu for doing so)? To copy from one user account to another means that I have to switch to the old account after copying from the new one. Does data on the clipboard stay there when switching user accounts? If I copy and paste the Corel section of the registry in the new account to WordPad and save as a text file, can I open this file in the old user account to copy from WordPad and paste into the registry?

Any other problems that might arise?
