I'd worry about the heat. LED's *do* produce heat, and if the battery is inside the ice it'll produce even more.
Probably be lots easier to have the power supply in the base. Clever wire placement would be called for, but I suspect hiding the wire would be much easier than hiding a large sealed battery compartment and a waterproofed receiver switch.
