I've tried all manner of pressing & prying, but the glass is in there to

Sometimes the screws are on the bottom. The whole case lifts off.


Be very careful with the glass. A careless former colleague of mine broke a large piece of glass on a press camera. She was horrified when she found out that it was special optical quality glass imported from Germany, and cost over $700 [her/our boss made her pay for part of it].

Your scanner may use fine optical quality glass, too, considering its price. It's surely worth opening and cleaning--carefully.
