Thanks for your considered reply, just back now from the field. I retain my g4 tower for the same reasons you list, but Im beginning to generate files which are rather large (100+mb). Not friendly to that bus, as you remark. I feel suspended for now, but can make things work with outboard harddrives until something presents itself. The MacPro tower experience at the Apple Store offered nothing special, moving images quite slowly through CS3beta. Answer may well be the discard of unneeded code, as you suggest, for using the intel chip, but I can wait. CS2 does lots that I need. Image quality. Yup, I know about all of that, I am one of those miracle darkroom workers you describe, and understand the near-infinite data capability of film. Which is why many pros continue to do personal work on film, even while satisfying on-demand exigencies clients deem important. Wonder whether youve seen Albert Watsons book, Cyclops, which uses scans by the ultimate image-shaper Richard Benson with Agfas CristalRaster technology, sidestepping halftone to render a published image that emulates silver analog. http://www.agfa.com/en/gs/products_services/all_products/cristalraster.jsp At least one source has notion to carry forward the quality of the past into digital. http://www.amazon.com/Cyclops-Albert-Watson/dp/0821221418/ref=pd_sim_b_1_img/103-5776458-5030243 Thanks for the Nokia heads-up. Camera-on-phone really isnt an interest of mine, who is willing to haul 4x5 camera for the right capture. Cant repeat often enough, our systems here are so very primitive they beg comparison to telegraphy of 100 years ago, or Marconi radio. But we accept that some people can receive signal while in Metro, others cannot, as long as one can talk while driving. Forget other indicators, here is one simple comparison to the rest of the world: we in the US are lagging way far behind in mobil technology. What an informative delight to read responses to Paulas travails. Woo-Hoo! Chad ____________________________________________________________________________________ Looking for a deal?
