I'm a bit surprised that no one has brought up the issue of security in this discussion (excuse me if I missed it). Given that XP is generally considered to be a less than robustly secure operating system, and given that Vista's code is generally reported to be better written, from a security standpoint, I would think that this is an important variable to consider.
