I am not aware of anyone being asked to turn on their laptops these days (including myself). The only requirement is that you must remove the laptop from its case and place it in one of those bins that goes through the x-ray. I've never understood why they must be removed from their carrying cases, and no one has been able to explain it to me, but it's a simple process to follow. --Stuart Carlow
