Arnold,
If you are anywhere near Rockville, MD, bring in your
sick Mac and ask for Lorin Evans.
The Washington Apple Pi computer club conducts a clinic
every Tuesday evening from 7 to 9PM.
It is staffed by (knowledgeable) volunteers and you
pay by the hour with a donation to the club
at whatever rate you can afford.
(Suggested rate is around $25 per hour).

I am one of the volunteers there.

Thanks to everyone for the clarification on MacBooks and who can
take a hit.
On what broke off...it was the headphone jack. I've taken the
doomed iBook to several Apple stores and they all claim that it
would cost a bundle to have fixed, though their estimates were
based on "eyeballing" the device. I'm still going to get some kind
of small tweezers to extract the broken piece (I tried superglue,
but it didn't have enough pull, and clogged the hole a bit), but in
the meantime, I'm going to go for something else while I still can.
Have a good one.
